Taras Bulba

Der Kosakenfürst Taras Bulba, der das benachbarte Polen und seine tatarischen Verbündeten erobern will, schickt seine Söhne Ostap und Andrei zum Studium in die polnische Stadt Dubno, um mehr über die polnischen Bräuche und Stärken zu erfahren.

Andrei verliebt sich jedoch in die Tochter des polnischen Gouverneurs Natalia. Dadurch gerät Andrei in einen Gewissenskonflikt, denn er liebt einerseits die Tochter des Feindes, andererseits ist er mit Leib und Seele ein echter Kosake.
