Berlin, Mitte der 1930er Jahre. Der deutsche Ökonom Dr. Hartlieb wird von seiner Firma nach Spanien versetzt, um vor Ort das Erzvorkommen zu erforschen. Doch das Land steht kurz vor einem Putsch und so rufen seine Aktivitäten den englischen Geheimdienst auf den Plan. Sie setzen die schöne Doris auf ihn an und so gerät Hartlieb ungewollt zwischen die Fronten.
