Auf „If you’re going to the city: A tribute to Mose Allison“ zeigen populäre Musiker zahlreicher Genres wie Elvis Costello, Taj Mahal, Iggy Pop, Fiona Apple, Ben Harper, Bonnie Raitt sowie Jackson Brown und Frank Black mit ihren persönlichen Interpretationen populärer Mose Allison-Songs ihre Verehrung für den 2016 verstorbenen, amerikanischen Jazz- und Bluespianisten, Sänger und Songwriter.
Mit seiner einzigartigen Modern Jazz-Mischung beeinflusste dieser Künstler wie Jimi Hendrix, J.J. Cale, die Yardbirds und die Rolling Stones, Tom Waits oder Pete Townshend nachhaltig. Mose John Allison wurde 1927 im Mississippi Delta geboren und wuchs mit Jazz- und Bluesgrößen wie Louis Armstrong, Memphis Minnie, Herzog Ellington, Louis Jordan und dem Nat Cole Trio auf.
