John Murrys drittes Album Stars Are God’s Bullet Holes ist durchzogen mit einer Portion extrem schwarzen Humors. Zwar handeln seine Texte immer noch von gewaltgeprägten (Familien-)Umfeldern, vom täglichen Überlebenskampf und der tiefen Traurigkeit des in Irland lebenden Amerikaners, doch ist nun ein Silberstreif am Horizont erkennbar.

Ein Highlight ist Murrys Version des Duran Duran-Hits Ordinary World, passend zu dem Mann, der gerne mit Nick Cave oder Marc Lanegan verglichen wird, und jetzt mit 42 endlich in der Lage ist, sich und seine Gefühle, Traumata und Entscheidungen anzunehmen.
