Nach dem Zerwürfnis mit der SPD bleiben ihr einzig Clara Zetkin und Karl Liebknecht als Mitstreiter. Prozesse, Gefängnisaufenthalte und politische Unruhen prägen ihre letzten Lebensjahre.
Am 15. Januar 1919 werden die KPD-Begründer Luxemburg und Liebknecht ermordet, doch ihre Werte haben noch heute eine ungebrochene Aktualität. Ein beeindruckendes Porträt einer ebenso couragierten wie kompromisslosen Frau!
Regisseurin Margarethe von Trotta prägte das deutsche Autorenkino maßgeblich und ist bekannt für ihre Filme über eindrucksvolle Frauen. ROSA LUXEMBURG erhielt im Jahr 1986 den Deutschen Filmpreis für den Besten Film, Barbara Sukowa bekam für ihre eindrucksvolle Leistung das Filmband in Gold und die Goldene Palme als Beste Darstellerin.
